Senior English Research Papers

The object of the paper will be to thoroughly research and explain a career in which you have some interest.  It is to be done in proper research paper format, which includes an introduction of one or two paragraphs, a clearly identifiable thesis statement, and three or four main topics, which you will cover thoroughly.  Each paragraph will have a clear topic sentence, and the last paragraph will be a well-thought-out conclusion.  You will want to consider most of the following:

*            What is the specific title of this career

*            What education is required to get into the field?  Are apprenticeships or training required?  What colleges or universities in the region would offer this training?  What high school classes might be most helpful?

*            What does the everyday work entail?  Will an employee have to move around, or will she/he be able to stay in one location?  Are jobs for this career usually found in small towns or large cities?  What is the work environment?

*            What type of person would be best for this job?  Are there any opportunities for advancement?  Is additional training required to be promoted?

*            What kind of salary does this career command?  What has to be done in order to earn the highest salary?  Is this a stable career, with projected demand for employees, or is this a career that may have peaked in terms of how many people are needed?

*            What are some of the drawbacks to the career?   What are some of the major benefits to the career?

This is a research paper.  General, vague and poorly worded statements do not rise to the level of competence you need to demonstrate in this paper.

You must provide current statistics and numbers from the last three years (2003, 2004, 2005) in your paper.

Additionally, you must provide at least two different sets of numbers from two different sources when presenting information.  For example, the average salary numbers can be from the Labor Department and from an industry source.
