Ask Away Reference

by Joanna Kluever

November 05, 2007

Check out the Julia Hull Website to connect to Ask Away: a 24-hour reference service staffed by Reference Librarians. Students and adults of all ages may connect to this service at any time and with any question. For teachers, it's a great place to ask questions about where to find instructional materials and lesson plans, certification requirements, professional development and workshops, etc. Students may log on to ask questions such as "How do I cite an electronic journal?," ""Where can I find information about World War II?," "How many nuclear power plants are in the U.S.?," or even, "When is my library open?" The service may be used for personal questions, as well. One of our librarians tested the service to ask about the best time for planting tulip bulbs. The response took less than one minute and provided ample resources to consult.

To use Ask Away, click on this link:  www.juliahull.org, then click on the Ask Away Reference link on the left of the screen. When the web site comes up, enter your zip code. Another screen will open, and you will be asked to provide your name, zip code, status (adult, child, etc.), and question. Hit "Connect" and a reference librarian will greet you.

Please pass information of this service on to your students, colleagues and friends. It's a great resource for our community.
