1st Annual Summer 5K/2 Mile Walk!

Sponsored by the SV Gridiron Leadership Committee

May 04, 2010

GRIDIRON LEADERSHP CLUB

The Gridiron Leadership Club needs your assistance. As part of their walk-a-thon, they are asking everyone, "Who are the great leades of all time, this country, your life"? - what would you reply?" If you have a famous quote by them, send that too!

The Gridiron Leadership Club would like to know. We are planning on featuring these greats on the route of the 5k/2 mile race, so who do you want to recognize? Please give us your feedback by going to the end of this article and sending us your response.

ABOUT THE CLUB

Who are we?  A group of twenty young men at Stillman Valley High School who are dedicated to living as leaders.

What do we do?  We meet regularly to set, report, and discuss our goals. Realizing that 80 percent of Americans don’t set goals, and that only 3 percent of Americans write goals down, and only 1 percent read their goals daily, we practice what only a few will.  We have a path to follow, we do not aimlessly wander. We practice the lost art of reading.  To be a leader, one must be a reader. We have read the books, “When the Game Stands Tall,” and “The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari.”  Furthermore, we employ our writing and thinking skills. Ultimately, we encourage each other to rise far above mediocrity.  Average does not live here.

Why?  Far too often we look to others to solve problems, to get things done, not understanding that we need to answer the call.  By answering the call we reap the rewards of doing more than others, by serving, by holding each other to higher standards.  We are not perfect, but we are seeking perfection.  Soon we will be fathers, run businesses, have wives, guide others, and more. It is imperative that we prepare ourselves to be exemplary in all those roles, and that training is happening daily, and it is happening now.

In summary, we are a group dedicated to excellence. Assuming the risk of leadership we put ourselves in positions to be questioned and doubted. That is what leaders do, and the times require us to act.  Our belief is that through self-improvement others will succeed. We strengthen ourselves to be strong enough to serve others. Through literature, discussion, writing, visualization, exercise, education, leisure experiences, and yes- failure- we will succeed.
