The Emily Fleming Business Award is named in honor of Emily Fleming, who had a strong interest in Accounting.

Emily was very involved in her school and her community. She played basketball, soccer, and cheered for her school football team. She was on student council, president of the National Honor Society, and was awarded Illinois State Scholar.  She was a lead in the 2015 musical, Pippin, and she was very active in the school’s choir.  Every summer Emily went with her church youth group on a mission trip.  She also mentored younger peers by being a breakout group leader for her youth group.

Emily excelled in Accounting and had the opportunity to use her accounting skills in her father’s accounting firm for about a year.  The Emily Fleming Business Award acknowledges and honors a senior business student who is planning to continue her/his business education in college.  It is awarded to a senior student who has a strong work ethic, an inquisitive mind, and accepts a challenge to problem solve when confronted with obstacles. This award also promotes a student with high integrity, a positive attitude, is a team-builder and community-minded.

Any student may apply for the award, but strong preference will be given to those students who have been active in the Business Department and Future Business Leaders of America.

To apply for the award, students need to pick up an application form from any of the business/technology teachers, go online to the SVHS FBLA website and download an application form or download a the two forms given on the right side of the page.

With the business application form, a student needs to submit a cover letter, a resume and a reference sheet. If a student needs assistance with compiling these business forms, see Mr. Read or Ms. Murphy.

The Cover Letter:  In the cover letter, the student should state the purpose of the letter and discuss why they believe they should be considered for the Emily Fleming Business Award.

Resume: If a student needs assistance with a professional resume, they should contact either of the business teachers at SVHS.

Reference Sheet:  Provide three references that are not family-related that can vouch for their integrity, character and work ethic.  The reference sheet should contain the following for all references:
