Congratulations to SVHS FBLA (Future Business Leaders of America) on receiving 1st Place for the Best Educational Campaign for the March of Dimes at the Illinois FBLA State Conference. The club also received the purple ribbon for raising more than $500.00 for March of Dimes.

Students attending the event were as follows:  Zeke Bussan, Grace Tarara, Chloe Overstreet, Taylor Hernandez, Justin Simpson, Peyton Fitchie, Javier Alvarez, Landon Henry. and Andrew Hart.

Students participated in competitions that included online testing as well as public and impromptu speaking. They also attended several workshops on leadership. The highlight of the weekend was speaker Joe Fingerhut, who shared his experiences on how students can become effective and promising young leaders through the connections they make in their lives. He also stressed how important it is to make the most out of opportunities that come their way...how to turn their dreams into real possibilities. After the workshop, SVHS students had the opportunity to meet with Mr. Fingerhut.

When asked about the most important lessons learned from Mr. Fingerhut, Andrew quoted Mr. Fingerhut: "When you cannot distinguish your work from play, you have reached the best kind of happiness!"  Andrew  also stated,"This quote made me feel inspired, and I can relate easily to the quote...this quote made me feel motivated to go out and do something big, like create something new or test out a theory.

When asked what effect the trip had on her, Taylor stated, "It was an expansion of my business knowledge and definitely aided me in my future." Chloe added, "I think that going to the conference was an amazing opportunity to see FBLA clubs both big and small accomplish amazing things. It supplied ideas for the future of SV FBLA, and made me realize good leadership is key to the success of the club." Andrew commented that , "Going to the Springfield Convention made me think about my future in business and technology and how it can make me very successful one day."

SVHS students met up with other FBLA members from around the state as well as exchange contact information with newly formed friends through a variety of FBLA activities. After attending the event, Peyton stated: "Attending the Illinois State Conference was not only a light-hearted pleasure, it was also very informative. From learning how to make a business plan to dress the very best for success, it was all information that would help myself in the ever changing future. There was such a diverse group of students amongst the chapters and everyone was extremely friendly. I left Springfield with friends I've never would have met if it wasn't for the amazing experience down at the FBLA-PBL Illinois State Conference."

A special thank you to Mrs. Tammy Pierson for assisting in chaperoning the event. FBLA would also like to thank students, teachers, and the SVHS community for all its support in raising money for the March of Dimes.
