SVHS's Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) will be hosting their first summer leadership-building camp starting on Wed. May 30, starting at 9:00 a.m. at Mrs. Tammy Pierson's home (8:30 - 9:00 is breakfast for those who want to eat before the camp begins). It will conclude around 3:30 p.m. on Friday, June 1. All FBLA members are encouraged to attend the camp and any students who want to find out more about FBLA are also encouraged to be in attendance (including any 8th graders who will be incoming freshmen next year). The camp is free for those who attend.

Future Business Leaders of America is a national student organization that works toward developing our future business/technology leaders for tomorrow. FBLA provides members with business and technology competitive opportunities at the regional, state and national levels (public speaking, impromptu speaking, web design, broadcast journalism, gaming, marketing and business plans, graphic design and much more!). Members have the opportunity to meet other members throughout Illinois at the Northern Regional Conference and the Illinois State Conference, as well have opportunities to compete at the national level. Students who also placed in competitive events have the opportunity to win scholarships for post-secondary education. FBLA stresses business professionalism as well as professional business dress. Dress for the camp is causal.

The main purpose of the camp is to help members or future members improve their leadership, business, public speaking and organizational skills through team building activities. Students will be camping out in the evenings and participating in a variety of leadership activities during the day. A bonfire is planned for Thursday evening.

For more information on the camp, or to sign up for the camp, please contact Mrs. Tammy Pierson @ tpierson@mail.meridian223.org, Ms. Cathie Murphy @ cmurphy@mail.meridian223.org or Mr. Ryan Read @ rread@mail.meridian223.org. Non-members may also speak with Misael Guerrero, President of FBLA or any FBLA member. To participate in this FBLA leadership event, please stop by room 103 or 106.
