Meet Kathy!

by Kaythy McCarey

September 09, 2008

I grew up in Boone, Iowa, and I have 1 sister. I graduated from Iowa State University in 1990 with a degree in Industrial Engineering. I moved to California and worked for McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) as an engineer for MD-11 aircraft. While there, I worked as a manufacturing supervisor, industrial engineer, and technical specialist, as well as project team member on a number of special events (i.e. retrofit of Delta Airlines Olympic Jet for carrying the torch in the 1996 Olympics). I have been married for 16 years to my husband, Brian, and we have four children (Andrew, 16; Erin, 14; Austin, 11; and Meghan, 8). My husband's job took us to Carroll, Iowa in 1998, so I quit my job and started my 2nd career as a stay-at-home mom and volunteer. I went back to Iowa State to complete my teacher's license, moved to Illinois in December 1996 and finished student teaching in May 2007. I taught in Forreston last year, and am very excited to be here in Stillman this year.

I spend most of my time as a taxi service and cheerleader for my kids' activities (name a sport and I probably have a child in it). I also am a member of St. Mary's Church in Byron where I occasionally sing and cantor for church. I enjoy golfing, reading, playing the piano & singing, and playing with my kids. I love to get away on family vacations, and recently have gone to North Carolina and New York.
