Writing College Application Essays  

These sessions will address essential skills and creative approaches to improving your college application essay. Whether you apply to a state universities or to private universities, via the Common Application, you will be required to submit an original essay and/or personal statement as part of your application. The essay is an important opportunity to distinguish yourself from other applicants and to show the admissions board something special and unique about you!

Sept. 26 Career and College Night / College & Career Center Grand Opening

Stillman Valley High School will host a Career and College Night on Wednesday, September 26 from 6:00-7:15 p.m. In addition to guest speakers providing an overview college, career and technical training, the military, applications and financial aid, this night is our public grand opening of the new College and Career Center.  Refreshments and snacks will be provided.

 

Oct. 3  Regional College Fair    6:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Meet admission representatives from over 100 in-state and out-of-state colleges and universities, ask all your questions, and get answers from the experts!

In addition to hosting college representatives, Rock Valley College will be presenting information sessions on financial aid. Tours of the Rock Valley College campus will also be available.

Oct. 11   FAFSA Night    6:00-8:00 p.m.

Financial Aid professionals from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will assist parents of seniors in the step-by-step process of filling out the FAFSA.  FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) is the government application that higher education institutions require to qualify for financial aid, such as, merit and need-based scholarships, grants and student loans.

 

Oct. 24 & Oct. 25   College Application Days   8:00-2:30 

The goal of College Application Days is to provide a forum for all seniors to complete and file college applications.  Throughout these two days a representative of the Illinois Student Assistance Commission will be on campus to assist seniors with the college application process.
